The many benefits of a wool rug

A rug adds atmosphere and warmth to any room, but rugs are not all the same. In fact, a wool rug has something special, it has a natural “look and feel”. This is not surprising because wool is, of course, simply a natural product that comes from sheep, alpacas, goats or even a rabbits.

Each type of wool has its own special structure, but this is not the only thing that makes a wool rug unique. Just think about how it is manufactured: cleaning the wool, spinning the woollen yarn, dyeing it and then also weaving it. In many cases, this is all done by hand, to get the most beautiful result and the best quality. You can see this, for example, in the wool rug Lett in white. This one is made with the finest wool from New Zealand. Moreover, there are quite a few advantages to a woollen rug from Tapeso and we are happy to list them for you:

  • Isolating: the space between the yarns keeps air stagnant. This keeps cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • Soundproofing: the wool absorbs vibrations, dampening sound. The thicker the rug, the stronger the effect.
  • Dirt repellent: as wool is somewhat greasy by nature, stains do not penetrate easily. If you drop something, you can simply dab it up with a slightly damp cloth.
  • Fireproof: wool is naturally flame-retardant. This is a nice feature if you have a woollen rug close to an open fire.

Good to know: we only work with parties that do not use child labour. This guarantees you an honest wool rug!

Have you ever seen a sheep soaking wet?

Have you ever seen a sheep soaking wet? Probably not. The wool fleece is water-repellent and protects the sheep from rain and cold. Even when the sheep is sheared, the wool retains this function, so even when it is incorporated into your rug!

Moreover, wool has a heat regulating effect. So the sheep don’t get too hot in summer or too cold in winter. You also benefit from this when you have a woollen rug in your home. You can best notice this by walking barefoot over the rug. And that’s no punishment anyway, because a woollen rug is wonderfully soft.

Country home? Check out our woollen rugs!

Woollen rugs can be combined well with all kinds of styles and furnishings. But if you like a country home, a woollen rug is a must. Of course, you can’t get much more rustic than a sheep. Combined with beautiful large pieces of furniture and lots of wood, a woollen rustic rug completes your cosy country look. Just light the fireplace and you’ll never want to leave.

Besides, make no mistake: as mentioned, woollen rugs go well with different styles. Think Scandinavian or industrial interiors, for example. Different weaving techniques create various effects, each matching a different interior. For example, you might have a beautiful Scandinavian rug with knots or a beautiful flat-woven industrial rug. Wool also lends itself perfectly to mixing with other materials such as cotton and polyester.

Find a good place for a wool rug anywhere

Thanks to its warmth and softness, you can always find a good place for a woollen rug in your home. From a rug in your bedroom, to a beautiful woollen rug for the baby room. Would you like a rug outside your home? Then a woollen rug is not suitable, you’d better look at our special outdoor rugs. By the way, a wool rug is not the only natural rug out there. For example, you can also choose jute rugs, or sisal rugs.
